This week in Jewelry I, students learned to how to select and utilize chain, round and flat nose pliers to bend wire to match a design they developed paper. We used three tests-wire to paper (for accuracy), wire to wire (for movement/flow), and butterfly (to notice space differences) to make two earrings that matched one another.
In Ceramics I, students finished up and graded their textured, closed pinch pots. They learned how to use slab to drape into bisque molds, and some students started making bowls on the pottery wheel.

In Jewelry II, students finished up their Free Ring project, and talked through their learning from the week. We talked about the balance between process vs. product and individual variation in work style. Student started brainstorming ideas for chains and thumbnailed ideas. | Check out what recent student portfolio posts on my Pinterest Student Work board. You can follow your Jewelry II's student weebly blog by finding them at my Pinterest Student Blogs board. And, of course, don't forget to check in your child on PowerSchool. Curious questioning is a great way to open conversations about school/life/grades. My favorite in the classroom is 'What do you feel good about right now? What's frustrating you?' |
