Who am I?
I spend a lot of time learning-I love to read and to gain greater insight into how people perceive. I use this learning to constantly adjust how I see the world, and the people in it.
What do I do?
I believe in play and passionate work. On weekend mornings, I can be found at school thinking about what to share in the next week, and finishing up work from the week prior. I also spend lots of time with my kids (2 and 6 yrs old), cleaning (not by choice :) and helping my husband with home renovations. I am a ceramic artist by background, and I got my B.F.A from UCONN in 2001 in Sculpture. I started teaching Ceramics in 2000, later becoming Arts Coordinator of the UCONN Community School of the Arts until 2008. My interest in teaching led me to get my Teacher Certification in 2008, and I was invited to teach at my own alma mater in 2009, and have been here ever since. I will finish my Master's Degree in 2016 at Wesleyan University. In my years after UCONN, I practiced as a studio artist, showing, and selling work, and I taught community and private art classes. My personal work in the visual arts has tapered a bit while I raise my two sons, currently 2 and 6, but I've remained active through my classes at Wesleyan and my activities with students at E.O. Smith.
What interests me?
I love to make art with others. I love to spend time noticing. I love camping, the ocean, hiking, traveling and making my home an artful place. I do yoga every week with my colleagues at E.O., and actively engage in community projects, like the Mansfield Community Playground Project, Roots of Development, Festival on the Green and collaboration with Community School of the Arts.
What do I hope to accomplish?
I want to enjoy the journey, and learn lots along the way.
